Me and the animals

About me:

Hi. My name is Javen Ackerman.

What I do
Currently, I chase little kids full-time.

I sometimes do freelance creative work, like writing words, designing websites, and installing software.

In the time that I have left over, I make a couple of comics. You’re reading one now, but you can read the other one here.

Here’s some stuff that I used to do:
Used to be an IT contracter and hated it.
Used to sell comics, games, and porn.
Used to co-run a theater company (the bad, local, small-time theater, not The Theatre).
Used to work in the Registrar’s office at the University of Minnesota, Morris.
Used to be a cook in a family style restaurant.
Used to work in a video rental store.
Used to work the grill at a Dairy Queen.
Used to work in a corn field.

About Q-Burger:

Where it comes from:
There was a real hamburger restaurant in Eagan, MN called Q-Burger (there was one in Savage, too, but I never made it there). I loved it. It was suddenly closed, without warning, in 1997. Q-Burger, the comic, is based on a monologue written by myself and performed by Zach Anderson in the 1998 Fringe Festival. The monologue was an expression of anger toward the closure of the Q-Burger.

The purpose of Q-Burger
From the start, this comic has always been the venue for me to learn how to make comics. It’s been my sandbox for trying things for the first time and experimenting with new things. Just take a look through the archives and you’ll see how wildly it’s varied, both in appearance and quality.

What’s with the crazy, confusing-ass story?
Yeah, it’s a little, shall we say, unwieldy. If you think you have problems keeping things straight while reading the story, try WRITING it! I’ve made many bad choices over the course of the comic’s development, and I’m paying for it now. The story still has major plot points that have roots in the very first few strips. This makes it very difficult for new readers to jump on, not only because the cause of what’s happening today is buried in a stack of 200 pages, but also because many of those 200 pages are some powerfully bad comics. I’ll do my best to keep things clear, and explain where necessary. Okay?
